Magic mushrooms may ease anxiety of cancer

Research conducted in the 1970s demonstrated that LSD helped terminal cancer patients and other facing eminent death to cope more successfully and comfortably with their situation. The hysteria that marked the War on Drugs resulted in most such research being shut down in the US and in most other countries. At long last, research on this important top[ic seems to be restarting. In this pilot study, with twelve cancer patients in a clinical trial, it was shown that psilocybin (magic mushrooms) also eases cancer patients coping with their illness. Let's hope that as we move to abandon the failed War on Drugs we will give a greater priority to using the currently illegal drugs to help people instead of using laws against them to achieve political advantage.

How about Mexican morning glory?

    Reply#1 - Fri Sep 10, 2010 9:07 PM EDT

Many strains of morning glory contain lysergic acid amide (LSA), which is a psychedelic with effects similar to LSD but requiring a much larger dose. I'm not aware cf any one currently doing any research on LSA and I would assume that if they are, then they are probably using the pure drug and not the seeds. There appears to be a growing renaissance in psychedelic research, so there may well be studies underway on LSA that I simply haven't heard about.

My GrandMother told me that women in child labor were given something like LSD, no wonder women are so much different.

On another matter of drugs; what drug was slipped into my beer in 1982-83 (Winter) that caused me to become unconcious? My body did not slump to the floor and I remained seated catatonic in a chair for I know not how long. Conciousness slipped in and out two times before I was able to gather enough motive force during the third consciousness to remove myself from the premises. Upon leaving, I was unable to speak as I was questioned as to my state of being. I made it back to my abode and, if at all, did not regain consciousness until morning (I suspect I may have died). An aquaintance swears that, "Drugs are for people that can't handle reality."
